Gustavo Velasco-Hernandez is a Research Fellow at IMaR (Intelligent Mechatronics and RFID ) Research Centre at the Munster Technological University (MTU, former Insititute of Technology, Tralee - ITT) and is a member of Lero, the Science Foundation Ireland Research Centre for Software. He has an M.Sc. and a B.Sc in electronic engineering from the Universidad del Valle, Colombia. His current research focus is in the field of perception, localisation and mapping for autonomous navigation applications. He has over 9 years of Research and Development (R&D) experience both in industry and academia,including projects encompassing areas like Autonomous Systems, Precision Farming, Smart Cities, Intelligent Transportation Systems and Industry 4.0. He has been involved in all the stages of the project life cycle from design to delivery, but also in different technical aspects of them, from the low-level hardware up to the application software.
His main research areas of interests are Intelligent Systems, Machine Learning, Embedded Software, Artificial Intelligence, Deep Learning, Robotics and Perception, and (Industrial) Internet of Things.
