Adam is a Lecturer in Biomechanics and Neuroscience and manager of esports science research in Lero at the University of Limerick. Having earned his PhD in neurophysiology and biomechanics at the University of Guelph, Canada, Adam has expanded his training in cognitive neuroscience and uses his expertise to investigate the sensory motor control of movement performance in professional and amateur esports athletes as well as the cognitive benefits of action video gaming. He also has interests in the sensory motor control of balance and movement in both young and older adults as well as the biomechanical study of expertise in golfers. Adam is a leading expert on the vestibular system and the use of Galvanic Vestibular Stimulation to probe its function. Adam’s expertise also extends to the use of transcranial Direct current Stimulation and motor simulation strategies for enhancing sensory motor learning. Adam currently lectures for SS4312, PY4145, SS4081, SS6022, SS6032, BR4071 and BR4081 modules and has given keynote presentations internationally and for TEDx. Beyond his academic pursuits, Adam can be found practicing his landscape and wildlife photography, SCUBA diving, or golfing.
