Aghil Hooshmand
Post-Doctoral Researcher
Dr. Aghil Hooshmand is a Research Fellow at the University of Limerick, working within the Biocomputing and Developmental Systems (BDS) group as part of Lero, the SFI Research Centre for Software. His research focuses on applying state-of-the-art machine learning, deep learning, and revolutionary algorithms to real-world biomedical challenges, particularly in the prognosis and diagnosis of cancer.
He holds a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics from the University of Tehran, where his doctoral research centered on developing multimodal deep generative models for drug repurposing, with a special case study on COVID-19. His work integrated gene expression and chemical data to predict new indications for existing or abandoned drugs.
With a strong foundation in software systems, data science, and AI, Dr. Hooshmand brings extensive experience from both academia and industry. He specializes in scalable data architectures, advanced AI model development, and extracting insights from complex biomedical datasets. His current interests include generative models, federated learning, explainable AI, and revolutionary algorithms such as genetic evolution (GE) for solving real-world problems, especially in medicine.
