Professor Kevin Ryan is emeritus Professor of Information Technology at the University of Limerick (UL) and founding Director of Lero – the Irish Software Research Centre. (lero.ie) Lero is a partnership of academic and industrial organisations, led from the University of Limerick, which aims to advance the quality and quantity of software research being conducted in Ireland.. Kevin Ryan holds degrees of BA (Maths & Economics), BAI (Engineering) and PhD (Computer Science), all from Trinity College Dublin and is a Fellow of both the Irish Computer Society and the Institute of Engineers of Ireland. For over 40 years he has lectured and researched on software topics in universities and industry in Ireland, the UK, the USA, Africa, Australia and Sweden. He has been an adviser to the Irish government on the development of the Irish software industry and has acted as consultant to industry and to international funding bodies. He has published papers on software engineering methods and education, software requirements engineering and on the role of technology in development. He was on the editorial board of 3 journals, has organised major conferences (including ICSE and RE) and has been an examiner for PhD degrees and taught courses in Ireland, the UK, Chile and Sweden. Since his retirement in 2011 he has remained active as a reviewer, advisor and consultant. He has been a director of a number of start-up software companies and served on the Student Grant Appeals Board from 2011 to 2021.
