Dr Liam Morris is a Lecturer in the Mechanical & Industrial Engineering Department and is an Academic Director in the Medical Engineering and Technologies Centre (MET) (https://metcentre.ie) in the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology. Dr Morris graduated with a first-class honors degree in Manufacturing Technology from the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT) in 1998 and continued his studies within GMIT through a research Masters from 1998–2000 in biomedical engineering. Dr Morris furthered his education by completing a PhD in the University of Limerick in biomedical engineering from 2000–2004 and a Post-Doctoral researcher (2004–2005). In 2005, Dr Morris joined the GMIT Lecturing staff in the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department and co-founded the GMedTech biomedical research centre. In 2016, the outputs of GMedTech secured funding from Enterprise Ireland’s Technology Gateway programme and resulted in establishment of the Medical Engineering and Technologies Gateway (MET centre) at GMIT. Dr Morris’s research work has been heavily involved in assessing cardiovascular diseases computationally and experimentally and designing novel medical devices. Dr Morris has supervised 10 PhD candidates to completion. Dr Morris will continue to grow his group to further develop bio simulator systems for medical device testing, clinical training and surgical planning.
