Mary Mitchell O’Connor TD, Minister of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation has welcomed the IEEE Young Entrepreneurs Open Day which takes place in University College Dublin on Saturday 19th November. Organised by the IEEE (Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), the event is aimed at students and young professionals looking for inspiration, resources and guidance to help start and grow their own business.

“It is important that young people have access to the best entrepreneurial advice,” said the Minister. “This is the aim of the conference where delegates will be exposed to the latest information, trends and issues in engineering, technology and business as well as current and future opportunities for collaboration and employment. I would like to pay tribute to the young professional and student member volunteers of the IEEE who have organised this event.”

Professor Mike Hinchey, director of Lero, the Irish Software Research Centre supported by Science Foundation Ireland, and one of the sponsors of the day-long seminar, added that it will include professional advice and workshops on business and start-ups, career development and technology by invited experts from business and industry sectors.

The IEEE (Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) is the world’s largest professional technical society.   It sets technical standards (e.g., wi-fi uses IEEE standards), publishes journals, magazines and books, and organises several thousand conferences and workshops per year, with many devoted to students and young professionals.  The UK and Ireland Section is the largest section outside of Silicon Valley.
