Professor Mike Hinchey, director of Lero – the Irish Software Research Centre, has been appointed Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the Brazilian Computer Society.   Limerick born Professor Hinchey, who is the first non-Brazilian to be appointed to the role, continues as head of Lero.

The online open access journal, which is published in English by Springer Verlag, London, is the official journal of the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC).

“I’m honoured to be the first non-Brazilian to be appointed Editor-in-Chief of this prestigious, international journal,” commented Professor Hinchey. “It reflects the growing global reputation of Ireland as a software research centre.”

The Brazilian Computer Society is a non-profit scientific organisation that brings together researchers, teachers, students and professionals engaged in scientific research, education and technological development across the broad area of computing.

SBC takes part in SBPC (Brazilian Society for the Development of Science) and of the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP).
