Prof Bashar Nuseibeh Receives 2015 ACM SIGSOFT Distinguished Service Award

ACM’s Special Interest Group on Software Engineering (SIGSOFT) www.sigsoft.org has named Prof. Bashar Nuseibeh as the recipient of its 2015 Distinguished Service Award for “For key service contributions to the software engineering community, including major editorial responsibilities in top journals and successful chairing of major technical events.” Dr. Nuseibeh (http://nuseibeh.com) is a Professor of Computing at The Open University, UK, Professor of Software Engineering at Lero ─ The Irish Software Research Centre, a Visiting Professor at Imperial College London and a Visiting Professor at the National Institute of Informatics, Japan.
The award will be presented on 22 May 2015 at the 37th International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE 2015) in Florence, Italy (http://2015.icse-conferences.org/). The Distinguished Service Award is presented to an individual who has contributed dedicated and important service to the software engineering community. Recipients receive a plaque engraved with their name and signed by the chair of SIGSOFT along with a $1000 honorarium. The award is presented by the SIGSOFT chair at ICSE during ICSE's award presentation session. The award recipient also receives support for travel to ICSE up to $2500 within their home continent and up to $3000 outside their home continent, including airfare, hotel, and conference registration for ICSE.
Bashar Nuseibeh is a central pillar of the software engineering research community. Over more than 20 years, he has made numerous and significant service contributions to this community, including:
- the successful development of the Automated Software Engineering journal (ASE) as Editor-in-Chief for 13 years
- the successful consolidation of the IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering (TSE) as Editor-in-Chief for four years
- the PC co-chairing of multiple, highly successful conferences including ICSE’2005, RE’2001 and ASE’1998
- the thoughtful rethinking of some aspects of these premier conference series through his chairing of or involvement in their Steering Committees
- the chairing of multiple other international working groups and workshops
