Noel Carroll
Academic
Noel Carroll is an Associate Professor in Business Information Systems in the School of Business & Economics, University of Galway and is a Financed Investigator at the Lero, the Science Foundation Ireland Research Centre for Software. He founded the Citizen Development Lab (citizendevelopmentlab.com) at the University of Galway which focuses on low-code/no-code for digitization, innovation, and digital transformation within organizations. His principal research expertise straddles across three key domains of research: (i) information systems; (ii) health informatics; and (iii) software engineering and has published in high quality journals and conferences. Noel enjoys industry engagement, and his interests include seeking ways to support organisations in developing transformation strategies in software development, digital innovation, and health informatics for multinationals, SMEs, and start-ups. He has published in leading international journals and consferences.
His research interests include seeking ways to support organisations in developing transformation strategies in software development, digital innovation, and health informatics for multinationals, SMEs, and start-ups, for example, Fidelity Investments (multinational financial services) and the Health Service Executive (Irish health service). His research is supported by Science Foundation Ireland grant 13/RC/2094. He has edited special issues, published, chaired, and reviewed for leading international journals and conferences in his field.
Noel has recently completed a Diploma in Academic Practice with Centre for Excellence in Learning & Teaching (CELT) at NUIG and currently undertaking a Masters in Academic Practice. Noel has been nominated for the President’s Awards for Teaching Excellence 2020 and the Dean’s Award for Inclusive Teaching (2019 and 2020). Noel had also participated in an Irish Universities Association (IUA) pilot study on “Enhancing Digital Teaching and Learning”, an initiative under the European Framework for the Digital Competence of Educators (DigCompEdu). He enjoys opportunities for industry engagement and additional interdisciplinary initiatives in teaching.
