Prof Ita Richardson is Professor of Software Quality in the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems at the University of Limerick, Deputy Director of Lero and a Principal Investigator in the Ageing Research Centre. She leads projects on Connected Health, Global Software Engineering and Gender issues in STEM. She has over 200 publications, has supervised 24 PhD students to completion and is currently supervising 1 PhD students. She has received funding for her research from a variety of agencies including Science Foundation Ireland, Irish Research Council, European Union and Enterprise Ireland. Her collaborators have included companies including Ei Electronics, Johnson & Johnson, IBM and Ocuco, and public bodies such as University Hospital Limerick Group and the Health Service Executive. Prof Richardson was an SFI Industry Research Fellow (2015-2017). She is General Chair of the International Conference on Software and Systems Processes, ICSSP 2024, and was Diversity Co-Chair for the International Conference on Software Engineering, ICSE 2023. She has served on many conference programme committees including the International Conference on Software Engineering 2018 & 2020, Workshop on Software for Healthcare, Requirements Engineering for Well-Being, Aging and Health, and the International Conference on Global Software Engineering over many years. She is currently guest editor with the Journal of Software and Systems on the topic of Software Engineering Education in the Era of Hybrid Work. Her guest editorship includes Journal of Software: Evolution and Process (Connected Health, 2017, Software Processes, 2015, Global Software Engineering, 2012), Expert Systems Journal (Knowledge Engineering in Global Software Development , 2014), IEEE Software (Software Process for Small Enterprises, 2007). Prof Richardson is an advocate for education and outreach, organising talks with groups such as the University Hospital Limerick Group, students from School of Allied Health, and undertaking visits to promote STEM to young women in secondary and primary school. Prof Richardson led the University of Limerick Equality and Human Rights portfolio from 2017-2020, chaired the CSIS-Lero Athena SWAN committee 2016-2022 and is currently a member, and is a member of Researcher sub-group of the UL Athena SWAN committee who received a Silver institutional award in 2023.
