James Patten is a lecturer of Artificial Intelligence & Game Development at the University of Limerick. After receiving a first-class honours degree in Multimedia and Computer Game Development he continued his studies with a PhD under the supervision of Professor Conor Ryan, as a member of the Biocomputing and Developmental Systems (BDS) group in UL.
As part of his PhD he developed a context sensitive variant of Grammatical Evolution (GE), a popular evolutionary automatic programming system developed by the BDS group, and investigated its usage as a means of supporting context sensitive decision in dynamic and noisy environments, such as those found in digital video games.
